Here are a couple of photos taken from a recent AWE training course in North Wales. It’s great to be involved in training future coaches; I always enjoy the creative discussions and activities aimed at exploring this amazing sport.
The AWE is an advanced white water coaching award for coaches that have come through the UKCC route or are L3 Inland Kayak Coaches with 5Star, or L4 Inland Kayak Coaches. The AWE is an award to shape a developing coach with extensive river experience into an advanced white water coach for a Grade III/IV environment. We spend 2 days on training, to cover the best practices for technique, the coaching of tactics, determining suitability of venues, plus equipping advanced river leaders to guide a range of paddlers successfully.
